Reproduzir uma imagem de Campo, montanhas, florestas, cidades, praias ... é o objetivo de muitos fotógrafos. Nicéphore Niépce , considerado o inventor da fotografia, combina três processos para fixar imagens em folhas de flandres recobertas com betume da Judéia. A primeira fotografia da história representa uma paisagem, uma vista de sua propriedade em Saint-Loup-de-Varennes em Saône-et-Loire (França). Louis Arthur Ducos du Hauron, outro precursor da fotografia, inventor da tricromia que permite a obtenção de fotos policromadas, fará a partir da década de 1970 muitas fotos de vistas da cidade de Agen (França) em "cores".
Outro inventor, Arthur Batut , empreende a construção de uma pipa que equipará com uma câmara escura cuja veneziana é acionada automaticamente pela combustão de um pavio de pavio. Em 1888, ele obteve a primeira fotografia aérea da história ao fotografar a cidade de Labruguière no Tarn (França).
